First, this giant pile of manuscripts and submissions and only so many openings for such content and second the industry talk about town or so to speak that publishers need to publish the books, push the content, with a market able to sustain but a few. Book Publishing is the "bread and butter" of most publishing shops, we also have budgets to keep and must stay competitive with every other content format out there. If we can only publish one title a year we may survive. We must improvise, implement new common practice, innovate our standards and develop communication with our clients, customers, and partners.
